Why Vancouver Homeowners Call Legacy Plumbing & Excavation & Heating & Cooling

Our work is about 90% residential, so we understand what homeowners need: a reliable team that shows up, diagnoses the problem accurately, and explains the repair before starting. Because we also handle plumbing, you can count on one company for a broader range of home service needs rather than juggling multiple contractors.

We’re a family-operated business, which means the quality of every job reflects on us personally. We’re also active in this community, including sponsorship signage at local high school athletic fields. When you call Legacy Plumbing & Excavation & Heating & Cooling, you’re hiring a team that has a real stake in Vancouver’s neighborhoods.

HVAC Repair Services We Provide

We use a diagnostic-first approach on visits. That means we evaluate your system to find the actual cause of the problem before recommending any repairs, rather than replacing parts based on symptoms alone. The services we provide include:

Furnace Repair: Gas and electric furnaces experiencing poor heating, short cycling, unusual noises, or ignition problems
Heat Pump Repair: Refrigerant, electrical, airflow, and performance problems affecting heat pump operation
Central Air Conditioning Repair: Systems blowing warm air, icing over, making unusual noises, or failing to start
Ductless Mini-Split Repair: Refrigerant, drainage, electrical, and inconsistent heating or cooling issues in mini-split systems
Thermostat & Control Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and repairing thermostat and control component failures that affect system performance

Warning Signs Your HVAC System Needs Repair

Catching a problem early can help keep a minor issue from turning into a full breakdown. Watch for these common signs that your heating or cooling system needs professional attention:

Your furnace runs but never reaches the temperature set on the thermostat
Heating or cooling cycles start and stop repeatedly (short cycling) instead of running to completion
Banging, rattling, or grinding noises coming from the equipment or ductwork
Warm air blowing from vents while the air conditioner is running
Weak or uneven airflow throughout the home
Ice forming on the outdoor unit or refrigerant lines
Unusual odors from vents suggesting electrical or mechanical trouble
Heating or cooling bills rising without any change in usage habits
Certain rooms staying noticeably warmer or colder than the rest of the house
A system that won’t turn on at all

What to Expect During an HVAC Repair Visit

When our technician arrives, the first step is a thorough evaluation of your equipment. We look for the source of the problem rather than jumping straight to parts replacement. Diagnostics can include checking electrical connections, thermostat operation, filters, airflow, blower components, and refrigerant levels. Once we’ve identified the issue, we explain what we found and what repair we recommend before any work begins, so you know exactly what’s happening with your system and what repairs may be needed.

Repair or Replace: How to Think Through the Decision

Not every HVAC problem calls for a full system replacement, but there are situations where continuing to repair an aging unit may stop making financial sense. A few factors worth considering:

System Age
HVAC equipment has a typical service lifespan. As components wear down over years of use, efficiency declines and parts become harder to source. A system well past its expected lifespan may cost more to keep running than to replace.

Repair Frequency
One repair every few years is normal wear and tear. If you’re calling for service on the same system repeatedly within a short period, that pattern often signals the equipment is failing rather than experiencing isolated problems.

Rising Energy Costs
When heating or cooling bills climb without any change in how you use the system, declining efficiency is a likely cause. A properly functioning system may consume more energy year over year as performance drops.

When you call Legacy Plumbing & Excavation & Heating & Cooling for a repair visit, our technician can give you an honest assessment of your system’s condition so you can make an informed decision about repair versus replacement.
